In-school accommodations for the Digital SAT® Suite of Assessments (.pdf/735 KB) will help support your work with these students.

Instructions

  1. Collect all the appropriate paperwork.

Print a Parent Consent Form (.pdf/312 KB) <----------(click here) and verify that you have all other records related to the student’s disability. These may include but are not limited to:

    • IEP/504/Formal plan
    • History of receiving accommodations for classroom tests
    • Records relating to the student’s disability, such as psychoeducational evaluation or medical records
    • Teacher survey <-----------Make to have ready when requesting accommodations
    • Answer a series of questions with the student, parent, and coordinating teacher.

You will be asked about the student’s demographic information, disability, requested accommodations, and school plan. At the end of each screen, click Continue to proceed to the next page.

    • Review and verify your request.

Before verifying and submitting your request, you will be informed if you need to submit documentation for College Board review. Once you have answered all required questions, you will be asked to review and verify the request.

Check the box next to Agree and Continue to submit your request. Then you will see a notification at the bottom of the screen that your request was submitted.

      • Submit the required documentation.

If documentation is required for review, you can submit it by clicking Select Files to Upload. If you wish to add more than one file, select Select Files to Upload again. Then click Continue.

        Know Your Dates and Deadlines

        Submit Requests Early

Because the approval process can take up to seven weeks, it’s best to start well before the test date. Keep in mind:

        • It is usually easier and more efficient to work through the school.
        • SSD cannot review the request until all required documentation is received.
        • If additional documentation is required—or if a request is resubmitted—approval can take an additional seven weeks.
        • If you miss a deadline, accommodations might not be approved or in place on test day.

        About Accommodations

The College Board considers all requests for accommodations needed by students with documented disabilities. Click here.

        Testing with Accommodations

Important: Be sure to visit Using Accommodations on Digital Tests for a chart detailing how each accommodation will be delivered digitally.

Some accommodations will be administered differently on digital tests than they are on paper and pencil tests.

        Here are some examples:

Some students will receive different accommodations on digital tests due to the nature of the assessment.

Students approved for a human reader, MP3, or braille will generally test with a screen reader (text-to-speech) unless they request an exception. Students can use their own third-party technology or the screen-reading functionality on their devices.

Students approved for a scribe will generally test with dictation (speech-to-text) unless they request an exception. Students can use their own third-party technology or the speech-recognition functionality on their devices.

Some accommodations won’t be needed for the digital tests.

Students approved for use of a computer will test without accommodations.

Students approved for large print, enlarged answer sheet, or a magnification device will use the zoom functionality on their devices to enlarge font size or change the background. This functionality is available to all students.

Because all math sections will permit a calculator, the accommodation of a four-function calculator won’t be needed.

The 2024-25 SSD school testing calendar is now available in SSD Online and can be accessed via the SSD Online dashboard. The testing calendar, which applies to school-based testing for SAT Weekend administrations only, allows you to notify us if there are administrations for which you won’t be able to provide school-based testing for your students. If you’re a primary SSD coordinator, please update the calendar with your 2024-25 availability as soon as possible, so that students approved for school-based accommodations will be able to register accurately for the SAT.

        Submit SSD Accommodations Requests

Be sure to submit accommodations requests for students taking August or October tests before your school ends for the summer. For other accommodations request deadlines, see accommodations.collegeboard.org/calendar.

        Digital Testing Tips

        Extended Time

Students taking the weekend SAT with time and one-half or double time now test in one day, unless approved for limited time testing. Most students taking the SAT School Day or PSAT-related assessments also test in one day, with exceptions for students taking the SAT with Essay or students testing with a paper test or paper supplement.

        Breaks

Test timing and breaks are all handled within Bluebook™ but not all in the same way. Students approved for the accommodation of breaks as needed will see a Pause button that allows them to activate a break whenever it’s needed. Students approved for extra breaks, extended breaks, or a nutrition break don’t need to pause the test and won’t see a button. The breaks are built into Bluebook’s timing, and the clock will stop during the student’s break time.

        Screen Readers

Most students previously approved for reading assistance will test with a screen reader. Some configuration may be needed. See Accommodations and Assistive Technology for detailed information.

        Help Us Help Students!

We’re looking for students to take part in research to help us improve the digital testing experience for students with accommodations. The time commitment would be one hour, and students will be compensated for their time. If you know of any students who might be interested, please share this five-minute survey that they can complete, which includes a parental consent form.

For more information about accommodations, visit the SSD website. For questions, contact SSD at ssd@info.collegeboard.org or 844-255-7728 (U.S.) or +1-212-713-8333 (international). As always, we’re grateful for the work you continue to do to support students.

        Sincerely,

College Board Services for Students with Disabilities
